Key Innovations in Movement and 1970s-Inspired Integrated Bracelet
After weeks of teaser announcements and numerous rumors, some accurate and others merely speculative, Rolex put an end to all of this and officially revealed its new watches for 2025. Among these watches, one stands out as one of the most important releases of the year, perhaps even one of the most significant releases in the brand's history in recent years, as Rolex introduces the entirely new Land-Dweller collection, which is a rare occurrence in its history.
An elegant yet sporty timepiece, it features a compact design that revives a distinctive aesthetic from the late 1970s, inspired by the Oyster Quartz, Rolex's first mass-produced quartz watch. This new model is equipped with an advanced movement featuring a newly patented two-wheel escapement, making it one of the first industrial applications of this technology, alongside several other technical additions to the movement.
The Land-Dweller watches are available in two sizes, 36mm and 40mm, with a case made of stainless steel with a white gold bezel (White Rolesor), or 18-carat rose gold (Everose), or platinum. The gold and platinum versions can be configured with either a fluted or diamond-set bezel. Regardless of the size, both models feature the same case thickness and offer water resistance up to 100 meters.
As for the dial, the steel and gold versions come with a white dial decorated with a honeycomb pattern, with Arabic numerals at 6 and 9 o'clock. The platinum versions feature the brand's distinctive ice blue dial in the same decorative pattern. In the diamond-set versions, the hour markers are in the form of baguette-cut diamonds.
One of the most revolutionary features of the Land-Dweller is its movement, the new caliber 7135, which can be seen through the transparent caseback made of sapphire crystal, making it the first stainless steel Rolex watch with an exposed caseback. The caliber 7135 operates at a high frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour) and offers a power reserve of up to 66 hours.
This movement also includes the Siloxy hairspring, a technology introduced for the first time in 2014, but now making its debut in a Rolex model from the permanent collection.
Another addition is the Dinabals escapement, a silicon escapement with a sequential pulse distribution, with a balance wheel made of ceramic resistant to magnetic fields. This component is precisely lubricated before assembly to ensure optimal performance. The escapement mechanism also includes two distribution wheels that activate the pulse lever to increase efficiency.
The new watch has registered 18 patents, 16 of which are exclusive to the new movement, which took seven years of development.
The design is completed with an integrated bracelet, specifically developed for the Land-Dweller watch. Rolex introduced the new "Flat Jubilee" bracelet, which maintains the five-link structure of the classic Jubilee design, but with a contemporary twist.
