Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
A piece unique in red gold inspired by the Chinese dragon
Jaquet Droz was founded in 1738 and is renowned for its handcrafted dials and métiers d’art timepieces, often inspired by global cultural themes. After a period of dormancy, the brand was revived under the Swatch Group in 2000. Since then, it has enriched its catalog with creations like the Tourbillon Skelet Sapphire Bushidô and the Ophidian Hour, continuing its fascination with symbolic storytelling through horology.
This year, the Swiss brand introduces the Tourbillon Skelet Red Gold – Dragon Mask, a unique timepiece that pays tribute to the Chinese dragon. This creation fuses horological complexity with cultural significance, combining sculpture, gem-setting, and mechanical precision to produce a watch that blurs the line between timekeeping and art.
The case is crafted from 18-karat red gold, measuring 41mm in diameter and 13.36mm in thickness. It features sapphire crystals on both sides and is water-resistant to 30 meters. On the dial side, the viewer is met with a stunning dragon mask sculpted from solid gold in white, yellow, and red hues. Each detail is meticulously hand-engraved, painted, and inlaid with cabochon-cut emeralds that form the dragon’s piercing eyes and cloud-like motifs. Time is indicated by slim hands that blend discreetly into the composition, while the flying tourbillon at 12 o’clock emerges between the dragon’s horns.
Powering the watch is the automatic Calibre 2625 SQ, a fully skeletonised movement derived from a Blancpain base. It beats at 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and features a single barrel offering an impressive eight-day (192-hour) power reserve. On the reverse, the rotor is engraved with the words “One More”, a personal request from the client.
The watch is paired with a patterned leather strap secured by an 18k red gold folding clasp. It is priced at CHF 450,000, approximately AED 2,050,000.
