Celebrating its Second Anniversary, a Unique Dial Combining Tiger Eye Stone and Eastern Arabic Numerals
To mark its second anniversary, Waqt proudly unveils its first special edition timepiece. As a long-time supporter of independent brands and emerging names, Waqt joins forces with Zentier for this milestone collaboration. The result is a unique creation based on Zentier’s Sauté collection, a line inspired by the elegance of movement, with a name derived from the dance term meaning "jump" or "leap."
Chosen by Waqt founder Dr. Malek bin Easa for its sculptural cushion-shaped case and dynamic display, the Sauté collection provided the perfect canvas for this special edition.
For the first time, the Sauté collection features Eastern Arabic numerals, combined with a jumping hours display, a rare and striking design choice that enhances the model’s distinct character. Equally exceptional is the dial, crafted from natural tiger eye stone, renowned for its rich golden-to-brown hues and mesmerizing chatoyancy, also a first for Zentier.
This commemorative edition is more than just a timepiece; it’s a tribute to Waqt’s journey over the past two years and a celebration of the readers who have made it the leading Arabic platform for fine watchmaking.
Housed in a 36mm cushion-shaped case, the watch features an entirely polished finish and measures 10.7mm in thickness. It is topped with a flat sapphire crystal treated with anti-fingerprint and anti-reflective coatings. The brushed stainless steel caseback is engraved with the Waqt logo and the edition number out of 50. An additional sapphire crystal caseback with the Waqt logo printed on it is also included.
The combination of the compact size, cushion shape, and straight lugs gives the watch a distinctive presence on the wrist, while the thin bezel draws full attention to the striking dial.
The dial is crafted from the natural precious gemstone tiger eye, a type of quartz stone with fibrous inclusions of crocidolite that produce a unique chatoyancy, a silky, reflective light effect that shifts as the stone moves. Its colors range from golden brown to reddish-gold, often marked by dark stripes resembling the eye of a tiger. Each dial is individually cut and polished, resulting in a unique pattern not found in any other watch, making every piece one of a kind in its beauty.
The jumping hours are positioned at 12 o’clock, while the dragging minutes are displayed on a rotating disc at 6 o’clock, beneath an arched window, both elements rendered in white. Just below the minutes display, Zentier’s applied logo plate adds a final touch to the refined aesthetic.
This watch marks the collection’s first use of Eastern Arabic numerals, a detail that sets it apart. While many of us are accustomed to seeing these numerals on traditional dials, where each hour retains a fixed position, their integration into a rotating disc layout offers a fresh and unconventional way of displaying time, making the watch truly distinctive.
At the heart of the watch is the automatic caliber ST-1721 from the Chinese manufacturer Tianjin Sea-Gull, featuring a Jumping Hour mechanism. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), the movement offers a 38-hour power reserve.
The watch comes fitted with a brown leather strap, a classic pairing that complements the tiger eye dial. It is secured with a stainless steel pin buckle. This limited edition is restricted to just 50 pieces. Sales will open exclusively on Waqt E-shop on July 28, priced at AED 4,400.
