The maison second tourbillon timepiece
Tiffany & Co. continues its remarkable journey in the world of fine watchmaking by blending its jewelry expertise with highly sophisticated mechanical creations. The brand now unveils a dazzling new timepiece: the "Bird on a Flying Tourbillon Azure Blossom" its second model to feature a tourbillon mechanism, following last year’s debut. This release reaffirms the American jeweler’s commitment, like other LVMH subsidiaries, to the renaissance the group has achieved in the watchmaking realm across its portfolio of brands.
The watch showcases Tiffany’s first-ever tourbillon movement, introduced last year and developed in collaboration with the independent Swiss workshop, Artem. The timepiece stands out with its unique movement, refined aesthetics, and groundbreaking design elements that go far beyond traditional jewelry watches.
In addition to the high craftsmanship in gem-setting and the complex flying tourbillon mechanism, the tourbillon is placed beneath a sapphire crystal dome cut in the shape of a diamond, an industry first. This ultra-thin, fully transparent dome weighs just 0.309 grams and is shaped entirely by hand using diamond tools. Its brilliance reflects the motion of the tourbillon from every angle, evoking the brand’s rich heritage in jewelry artistry.
The watch comes in an 18K white gold case measuring 39 mm, adorned with a total of 771 diamonds totaling more than 3.8 carats, including 340 diamonds set on the case alone. The brand uses the snow-setting technique, one of the most intricate gem-setting methods to decorate the case, the sub-dial for hours and minutes, and the main movement bridges. This technique requires placing diamonds of varying sizes in such a precise manner that nearly all traces of metal vanish, giving the watch a mesmerizing, continuous sparkle. This process alone takes more than 100 hours of meticulous craftsmanship.
The dial, rendered in vibrant blue using the champlevé enamel technique, is hand-decorated with floral motifs in lacquer. Hours and minutes are displayed on a sub-dial at 2 o’clock, crafted in white gold and set with 168 diamonds (totaling 0.48 carats), and paired with yellow gold hands. A delicate bird, hand-sculpted from 18K white and yellow gold and set with 70 diamonds, sits atop the dial, a miniature work of art that alone requires 40 hours of hand-finishing.
At 7 o’clock, the flying tourbillon is displayed beneath the diamond-shaped sapphire crystal dome. Thanks to its bridge-free construction, the tourbillon makes a full rotation every 60 seconds, appearing to float in mid-air. The fusion of advanced engineering and this sculptural dome, shimmering like a diamond, elevates the watch into the realm of mechanical art.
Powering the watch is the hand-wound caliber AFT24T01, developed in partnership with Artem, comprising 205 components. It beats at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and delivers a 60-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback and is richly finished; the decorative plates are adorned with 143 brilliant-cut diamonds, highlighting Tiffany’s attention to detail even in the mechanical heart of the watch.
The timepiece is fitted with a dark blue alligator leather strap secured by a pin buckle in the shape of the Tiffany “T”, crafted from 18K white gold and set with 49 brilliant-cut diamonds (0.18 carats). The "Bird on a Flying Tourbillon Azure Blossom" is a limited edition of just 10 pieces, with pricing available upon request.
