A beautiful pixel-art dial that brings the past into the present
The Swiss watchmaker Mido was founded in 1918 by Swiss clockmaker Georges Schaeren and has built a reputation for innovative designs and technical excellence. Mido's releases are known for their boldness and modern aesthetics, such as the Multifort TV Big Date and the Ocean Star Decompression Timer. One of the standout pieces in its collection is the Commander 1959, a model that has been around since 1959 and has since evolved to incorporate the latest technologies. It is now reimagined as the Mido Commander 1959 Pixel Edition.
The watch features a polished stainless steel monocoque case with a diameter of 37mm and a thickness of 10.5mm. It offers water resistance up to 50 meters, making it suitable for everyday wear but not recommended for swimming. The dial is protected by an acrylic crystal hot-stamped with the Mido logo.

The dial showcases a vibrant gradient of pixels in shades of blue, pink, and purple. These "pixelated" colors are not only visually striking but also incorporate Super-LumiNova accents, adding a playful glow in low-light conditions. The applied indexes and hands ensure excellent readability, with both featuring Super-LumiNova coating.
Powering the watch is the Mido Caliber 80, an automatic movement based on the ETA C07.621. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and boasts an 80-hour power reserve. The movement is housed behind a solid caseback, adorned with the Mido logo, and features a Nivachron balance spring. Made from a titanium alloy, this balance spring offers enhanced resistance to magnetism, shocks, and temperature fluctuations.

The watch comes with a stainless steel mesh style bracelet, and joins the brand’s permanent collection at a price of CHF 740, approximately AED 3,000.
