A limited edition with a carbon fiber composite case
The inventive Russian watchmaker behind the famed Wristmon concept, Konstantin Chaykin, enjoys engaging in collaborations that are as creative and unconventional as his own designs. One such partner is Behrens, a Chinese independent brand celebrated for its unorthodox mechanisms and imaginative display modules, a brand that has been working with Chaykin for the past three years, and has continued to evolve with each release, as seen in the Ace of Hearts editions. This year, the duo returns with a new project, the Kremlin Edition.
The watch is housed in a 42mm carbon fiber composite case with a textured grey-black finish, punctuated by scattered red spots. Its 14mm thickness and ergonomic profile offer a bold wrist presence while keeping the weight to a minimum. Around the back, a sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement, framed by the same carbon fiber material. The watch is water-resistant to 50 meters.
As we've come to expect from the Wristmon line, the dial takes the shape of a face. The left eye displays the hours, the right shows the minutes, both via rotating discs. Rather than a conventional moonphase or weekday indicator forming the mouth, Behrens introduces a whimsical “loony” seconds hand shaped like a spade. It follows an eccentric, curved path across the dial, racing across what can only be described as a smile. The dial is made of brushed and polished black-coated components atop a carbon fiber base that echoes the case. The hour and minute "eyes" are filled with luminescent material for enhanced legibility in low light.
Powering the watch is a Swiss-made automatic Sellita SW200 caliber, customized with a black-coated mainplate and bridges. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offers a 38-hour power reserve. The finishing includes a black-coated rotor decorated with Côtes circulaires, a variation of Côtes de Genève, using concentric circles instead of linear stripes.
The watch is paired with a red synthetic fluorocarbon rubber strap, echoing the red accents of the case. It features a quick-change system and is secured with a titanium Behrens pin buckle. It is limited to just 99 individually numbered pieces, and the price is still upon request.
