The company's most famous edition, now with a gray dial and golden accents
Baume & Mercier is a renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker with a history dating back to 1830. Founded by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume, the company initially operated as "Frères Baume" in Les Bois, a village in the Swiss Jura. Over the years, the company expanded internationally and merged with Paul Mercier in 1918, creating Baume & Mercier as it is known today.
The Riviera collection is one of Baume & Mercier's most iconic and enduring lines. First introduced in 1973, the Riviera is characterized by its distinctive twelve-sided bezel and robust yet stylish design. This collection perfectly captures the spirit of the 1970s with a blend of elegance and sportiness.
The sharpness of the Riviera’s current design, which was introduced in 2021, has contributed to its success. In 2023, to commemorate its 50th anniversary, a perpetual calendar was introduced to the Riviera line. Now, the company is introducing a new limited edition of the Riviera, echoing the historic 1985 model featuring a full calendar, but looking resolutely to the future. This edition is limited to just 50 pieces.
The new Riviera Perpetual Calendar retains the same design of the collection within a 40 mm x 11.8 mm stainless steel case. Recognizable for its dodecagonal twelve-sided shape, the case alternates polished and satin-finished surfaces to highlight its dynamic lines. The bezel, secured by four screws, is crafted in polished satin-finished stainless steel. Adding to its sophisticated design, the octagonal crown is encircled by a sleek black outline, with the brand’s Phi logo displayed at the center. The watch is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-glare coating on both sides and is water-resistant to 50 meters.
Featuring an elegant grey dial with vertical brushed finishes and three snailed counters, the timepiece exudes sophistication. The applied indexes and openworked hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated. The seconds hand is adorned with the Phi logo as a counterweight at its extremity. The subdial at 12 o'clock displays the months and leap year, with the leap year hand highlighted in red. The moon phase subdial, located at 6 o'clock, is polished and rhodium-plated with a black lacquer finish. The date subdial is positioned at 3 o'clock, with the 31 in a different color for emphasis, while the days are indicated at 9 o'clock.
The automatic caliber BM13-1975AC2 operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). This advanced movement offers a five-day power reserve (120 hours) and protection against everyday magnetic fields.
The dodecagonal case back is fastened with four steel screws and features a transparent sapphire crystal that showcases the Baumatic manufacture self-winding movement. This movement is equipped with a Dubois-Dépraz perpetual calendar module and a gold-plated oscillating weight that complements the color of the dial. Finishes include circular-grained bridges and a sand-blasted and snailed baseplate.
The integrated bracelet features three links of polished and satin-finished stainless steel, complemented by a triple folding buckle with security push-pieces. Additionally, the watch comes with an extra strap in gray rubber. The straps are interchangeable without the use of tools, thanks to the quick-release system.
The new Baume & Mercier Riviera Perpetual Calendar is a limited edition to 50 piece, retails at the price of USD 21,000 which is equivalent to 86,000 AED.
