Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
A new collaboration between the German car manufacturer and the Swiss brand
Cars and racing have long been a source of passion and inspiration for watches, and TAG Heuer and Porsche have a storied history steeped in this passion. Their paths have converged and intertwined for nearly 70 years, both on and off the racetrack. From the early days of automotive races like the Carrera Panamericana, a legendary 3,000-kilometer endurance race across Mexico known for its danger and difficulty, where Porsche secured its first-class victory and later named its most powerful engine variants Carrera.
In 1963, Jack Heuer honored this race by naming an iconic chronograph after it, and its spirit lives on through the Tag Heuer Carrera collection, which has become one of the brand’s iconic watches. Over the years, it has seen an array of releases, and now the brand is launching the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963, a new timepiece inspired by the Porsche 963, a racing car that gathered victories on many famous racetracks across the globe.
The watch comes in a brushed and polished stainless steel case with PVD-coated grained hollowed sides adorned with the Porsche logo, measuring 44mm in diameter and 15.1mm in thickness. Its design includes a striking black forged carbon tachymeter bezel accented by white Super-LumiNova indices. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and you can see '963' engraved on the caseband between the lower lugs. The caseback also features a sapphire crystal, providing a glimpse into the intricate craftsmanship within.
The skeletonized dial features NAC treatment which is applied by electrolysis to give a deep anthracite color with tubular shapes reminiscent of Porsche’s racing car chassi. The dial showcases three counters, a black 30 minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, a small second sub-dial at 6 o’clock with the date window, and a black 12 hour chronograph counter at 9 o’clock. The hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated, and coated with white Super-LumiNova, while the central hand is red lacquered.
The watch comes with a black rubber strap, and is powered by Calibre TH20-00, an in-house automatic movement with a column wheel and a vertical clutch. It operates at 28,800 vph (4Hz), and offers 80 hours of power reserve. The watch is limited to 963 pieces and pierced at CHF 9,000, equivalent to AED 37,000.
