Japanese Culture Inspired Dial with a Recycled Strap by Regal
The Seiko Presage Classic Series represents a focused effort by Seiko to combine traditional Japanese design elements with reliable mechanical performance. Introduced as a refined branch of the larger Presage line, the Classic Series features clean dial layouts, curved case profiles, and subtle textures inspired by Japanese craftsmanship, particularly textiles. Seiko has already introduced several models within this series, including the Presage Classic “Edo Silk” offered in three color variations and materials, drawing direct inspiration from traditional Japanese silk weaving techniques.
Today, the brand announces a new addition to the collection, the "Presage Classic SPB529".
The watch comes in a polished stainless steel case measuring 40.2mm in diameter, 13mm in thickness, and 46mm lug-to-lug, striking a balanced presence on the wrist. Its dual-curved sapphire crystal is treated with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, ensuring clear legibility under various lighting conditions. The case is complemented by a rich golden-brown lower coin edge bezel, providing a warm contrast that enhances the overall aesthetic. Additional design highlights include an oversized fluted crown for easy handling and an exhibition caseback that reveals the intricate mechanical movement within. Built for everyday use, the watch offers a solid 100-meter water resistance rating.
The dial is finished in a light brown gradient inspired by Shiracha, a traditional Japanese hue that gained popularity during the Bunsei era. This warm, earthy tone creates a refined backdrop for the gold-colored applied hour markers and matching gold central hands, offering excellent legibility with a touch of vintage elegance. A gold-printed minute track encircles the outer edge of the dial, subtly reinforcing the watch’s classic aesthetic. The layout is completed with a neatly integrated date window at the 3 o’clock position, maintaining symmetry and functionality without distracting from the overall design.
The watch is powered by Seiko’s in-house calibre 6R55, an automatic mechanical movement operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). It offers a substantial power reserve of approximately 72 hours, allowing it to run for three full days without requiring winding. The movement is rated for an accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day, reflecting Seiko’s balance between reliability and accessibility. As with other models in the Classic Series, the 6R55 can be viewed through the exhibition caseback, highlighting Seiko’s commitment to mechanical craftsmanship.
It fitted with a strap made of upcycled leather, sourced from "Regal" a renowned Japanese shoemaker with a long-standing heritage in premium leather craftsmanship. secured with a stainless steel folding clasp. As a limited edition release, only 3,000 pieces of this model will be available worldwide. The watch is priced at USD 1,050 approximately equivalent to AED 3,850.
