Introducing Rado Unveils the Captain Cook Over Pole with Yellow Gold Coated Case

The Captain Cook collection stands as one of Rado’s most iconic lines, dating back to its original launch in 1962. Named after the British explorer James Cook, the watch has evolved into a cornerstone of the brand’s offerings since its relaunch in 2017. Rado continued to build on this legacy in 2022 with the re-release of the Captain Cook Over-Pole, featuring the traveler’s beloved worldtimer complication. While that edition was housed in a stainless steel case, this year the collection expands further with an elegant yellow gold-coated version.

This limited edition features a polished 39mm yellow gold PVD-coated stainless steel case that exudes elegance. The case's thickness is a comfortable 10.9mm, and it is paired with a sapphire crystal that features an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The watch includes a bi-directional rotating bezel with the names of major cities representing different time zones. To use it, align your current city with the 24-hour time scale on the dial, then rotate the bezel to see the time for any other city based on its position on the bezel. This allows you to easily read the approximate time in multiple cities around the world without adjusting the watch hands. The watch’s screwed caseback features a sapphire crystal and ensures 100m of water resistance.

The dial comes in a silver sunray finish that catches the light beautifully, with vintage-style white Super-LumiNova on the indices and hands, while the yellow gold-colored moving anchor adorns the 12 o’clock position. For those wondering, it is an independent decorative element and is not linked to the movement. Additionally, the dial has a date window at 3 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the Rado calibre R862, a manual-winding movement based on the ETA 2824. This movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz). 

The strap is made of brown vintage leather, with off-white stitching that complements the gold accents of the watch. The watch also comes with a yellow gold PVD-coated beads-of-rice bracelet. Both straps are fitted with quick-release spring bars, making it simple to change your look. The watch is limited to only 1,962 pieces and is priced at €3,100, which is approximately equivalent to AED 12,500.
