Two Limited Chronographs Celebrate One of Switzerland’s Most Iconic Movements
Nivada Grenchen unveils two limited editions of its famous chronograph watch, the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver. These editions feature one of the most iconic chronograph movements in the history of haute horlogerie: the Valjoux 23, produced from 1916 to 1974. Nivada has used a newly restored batch of 50 vintage Valjoux 23 VZ movements (new old stock), pairing them with a design that reflects the spirit of the original era.
The original Chronomaster collection was launched in 1963. This groundbreaking model was designed as a versatile chronograph suitable for divers, aviators, and adventurers alike. The Chronomaster line was revived in 2018 and has since seen several exclusive editions, such as the recently introduced Full Black version.
The Valjoux 23 is a classic hand-wound chronograph movement, produced from 1916 through 1974—considered the golden era of the original Nivada brand. In addition to using a genuine vintage movement, Nivada Grenchen adds a special touch to this release by offering two distinctive dial variations.

The new Chronomaster is crafted in 316L stainless steel with a mix of polished and brushed finishes. The case measures 38mm in diameter and 12.95mm in thickness, with a domed sapphire crystal protecting the dial. As a nod to vintage design, it features a fluted crown and large chronograph pushers. While both editions share the same case, they differ in bezel execution. The matte black dial is paired with a black bi-directional bezel featuring a 60-minute scale, while the blue aventurine dial comes with a world timer bezel made from aventurine glass.
The bicompass dial layout includes two subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock: a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The dial bears the “Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver” inscription, just like the original 1963 model.
The first version is the Valjoux 23 Broad Arrow, featuring a matte black dial with broad arrow hands and vintage-inspired cream-colored Super-LumiNova hour markers. The subdials are black, and the minute counter includes a red regatta countdown track.
The second version showcases a shimmering blue aventurine glass dial, reminiscent of a starlit night sky, with crisp white printing and luminous accents. The subdials are rendered in glossy silver, offering a refined sense of depth and luxury.
Visible through the display caseback is the Valjoux 23 VZ movement, which Nivada Grenchen has restored to modern standards while preserving its vintage soul. Running at 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz), this hand-wound column-wheel chronograph movement offers a 48-hour power reserve.

The matte black dial edition is paired with a brown racing strap that emphasizes its motorsport heritage, while the aventurine version comes with a blue leather strap.
Each edition is limited to 25 pieces and priced at USD 5,000, which is approximately AED 18,650.
