Reversed movement showcasing the intricate mechanical components
When Richemont acquired the Swiss manufacture Minerva in 2006 and later integrated it with Montblanc, known for its high-end pens and watches, it was a bold strategic move. In 2018, Montblanc introduced the Montblanc 1858, a collection that honors the iconic Minerva chronographs from the 1920s and ’30s. Since then, many of Minerva's exquisite and historically significant calibers have become part of Montblanc's higher-end offerings. Although Montblanc is often associated with luxury pens, the company brings significant horological expertise to the table.
This year, the brand introduces the “Montblanc 1858 Unveiled Minerva Monopusher Chronograph”, a new limited edition timepiece featuring five openings on the case band, allowing light to illuminate the movement, which has been reversed to showcase all the mechanical workings on the dial side of the watch.
The 43mm stainless steel case is 14.73 mm thick, and comes with sapphire crystal windows on the sides. The fluted bezel is crafted from 18k white gold, adding a touch of elegant luxury to the piece. Turning the watch over will reveal an intricate engraving of the Minerva Manufacture.
The skeletonized movement has been reconfigured so that all its components are visible from the dial side, as it has been completely flipped. The column wheel is located at 12 o'clock and the balance wheel at 6 o'clock. The chronograph counter is positioned at 3 o'clock, and the small seconds subdial at 9 o'clock. The dial features elegant touches of blue throughout, giving it an exceptional style.
The watch is powered by the hand-finished Manufacture MB M17.26 movement, a manually wound mechanism that operates at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz) and provides a 50-hour power reserve. The timepiece comes with a blue calfskin leather strap secured by a steel folding clasp. It is limited to 100 pieces and is available at a price of USD 44,000, which is equivalent to AED 162,000.
