Adding the Magic Gold alloy to the Square Bang collection
Most cases in Hublot's Big Bang collection have been either round or tonneau-shaped. But in 2022, Hublot introduced a new addition to the Big Bang line with a completely new square-shaped case, called the Square Bang. Square-shaped watches pose a unique engineering challenge when it comes to achieving water resistance. This is because square cases require specialized gaskets, and the right angles are inherently more difficult to seal against water compared to the smoother curves of round watches.
Despite the challenges, the Square Bang collection brings Hublot's iconic design flair in a bolder, more unique case. This year, Hublot introduces the new limited edition Square Bang Unico Magic Gold and Square Bang Unico Ceramic Magic Gold, which use its exclusive high-tech Magic Gold alloy (an 18K gold that's patented, unalterable, and scratch proof).
Both watches feature a 42mm diameter case with a thickness of 14.7mm. The “Square Bang Unico Magic Gold” uses polished gold alloy for the main case body and bezel, except for the black titanium inner case. In contrast, the “Square Bang Unico Ceramic Magic Gold” restricts its use of Magic Gold to the bezel, with the case itself made of black ceramic. Both models have a sapphire case back, ensuring 100 meters of water resistance.
The smoked sapphire dial on both watches showcases openworked sword-shaped hands, with a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock and a chronograph counter with a date display at 3 o'clock. Both watches are powered by the UNICO 2, an in-house automatic chronograph movement featuring a flyback mechanism with a column wheel. It Operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz), and offers 72 hours of power reserve.
