A Titanium Dive Watch Paying Tribute to the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS)
In 2025, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) celebrates two major milestones: 160 years of lifesaving operations across the North and Baltic Seas, and 150 years of its iconic donation boxes. To mark this remarkable dual anniversary, Mühle-Glashütte unveils a special limited edition of its professional-grade dive watch: the S.A.R. Mission-Timer “160 Years of DGzRS.” Limited to just 160 pieces, this commemorative timepiece not only honors a storied maritime legacy, but also actively supports it—100 euros from each sale will be donated directly to the independently funded rescue missions of the DGzRS.
Mühle-Glashütte’s partnership with the DGzRS dates back to 2002 with the introduction of the original S.A.R. Rescue-Timer, a watch designed to meet the rigorous demands of professional sea rescue. Since then, the brand has remained committed to producing robust, purpose-built instruments for maritime professionals.
For this special edition, the S.A.R. Mission-Timer receives a substantial upgrade. The 43 mm case, traditionally crafted in stainless steel, has been reimagined in lightweight titanium and fitted with a unidirectional ceramic bezel for enhanced scratch resistance. While the previous edition used a rubber bezel. Despite its tool-watch toughness, the case retains the smooth, ergonomic lines and integrated bracelet design that define the collection. It is topped with a 2.5 mm-thick sapphire crystal and offers a screw-down crown and an impressive water resistance of 500 meters. The total height is 13 mm.
The titanium caseback is engraved with the image of the DGzRS’s iconic “Sammelschiffchen,” the miniature donation boat that has supported the organization’s grassroots funding efforts for 150 years. It also bears a commemorative inscription: “150 Years of Sammelschiffchen. 160 Years DGzRS The Maritime Rescuers,” along with the watch’s individual limited-edition number.
Echoing the industrial aesthetic of the case, the dark titanium dial is adorned with a detailed topographical sea chart of the North Sea near Bremerhaven, home to the DGzRS headquarters. Large luminous hour markers, bold cardinal indices at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, a generous date window, and a red-tipped seconds hand ensure maximum legibility, continuing the high-contrast design language of the S.A.R. collection.
Inside, the watch is powered by the automatic Sellita SW 400-1 caliber with a 41-hour power reserve, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Mühle-Glashütte has equipped the movement with its proprietary woodpecker neck regulator for increased shock resistance and regulated it to a precise rate of 0 to +8 seconds per day.
The watch is paired with an integrated black rubber strap, secured by a titanium folding clasp with a diving extension. Priced at €2,900 approximately AED 12,300, the S.A.R. Mission-Timer “160 Years DGzRS” is available in a limited edition of just 160 pieces.
