Expanding the Ocean Star collection with elegant gold and brown accents
The Swiss brand Mido delivers precise timepieces with modern style at an accessible price point, offering everything from simple models like the Commander 1959 to diving watches like the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961. This year, the brand expands one of its most iconic collections, Ocean Star GMT, with a new yellow gold PVD edition paired with chocolate-brown accents.
The stainless steel case, finished in yellow gold PVD, measures 44mm in diameter and 13.28mm in thickness, with a comfortable 50.10mm lug-to-lug span. A black ceramic unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute scale sits atop. The mix of polished and brushed surfaces creates a dynamic play of light. A screw-down crown and caseback ensure 200m of water resistance, and the caseback is engraved with 24 global time zones.
The velvety black dial features a dual-tone 24-hour flange, brown for daytime hours and black for nighttime. The gold PVD-coated hands glow with Super-LumiNova, ensuring optimal readability in the dark. A second time zone is indicated via a brown varnished GMT hand, while the date appears at 3 o’clock.
The watch is powered by the Mido Caliber 80, an automatic movement based on the ETA C07.661. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz) and offers an 80-hour power reserve. It’s also equipped with a Nivachron balance spring for enhanced resistance to magnetic fields. Notably, this is a true GMT movement, allowing independent adjustment of the local hour hand.

It comes on a chocolate-brown rubber strap integrated with the case, featuring a yellow gold PVD folding clasp with a diving extension and quick-release spring bars. The watch joins Mido’s permanent collection and is priced at CHF 1,350, approximately AED 6,100.
