An Elegant Edition Revives the Iconic Dive Watch with a Contemporary Design
The Longines "Super Compressor Diver" is one of the most iconic watches in horological history since its first appearance in 1959. It is known for its distinctive design featuring two crowns and an internal rotating bezel, an innovation by Longines aimed at protecting the bezel from accidental adjustments or shocks by placing it inside the case.In 2007, Longines revived this watch under the name "Legend Diver," maintaining its original design while upgrading the water resistance from 120 meters to 300 meters. Over the years, the collection expanded to include various dial colors and strap options.
In 2023, Longines embraced the trend of smaller-sized watches under 40mm by releasing a new version with a 39mm stainless steel case. Last year, the brand had already added three new dial colors to the lineup: bronze, green, and grey.
Now, a new version joins the collection featuring a matte white dial that gives the watch a modern and clean look, seamlessly blending with the polished stainless steel case and bracelet.
The 39mm case retains the iconic dual-crown design: the crown at 4 o’clock is used to set the time, while the one at 2 o’clock controls the internal rotating bezel. Both crowns are screw-down, as is the stainless steel caseback, which bears the brand’s iconic diver emblem. The lug-to-lug length measures 47mm, and the thickness is 12.70mm, including the domed sapphire crystal. The watch is water-resistant to 300 meters.
The dial maintains its classic layout, with the matte white tone offering a contrasting counterpart to the original black version. The inner rotating bezel retains the 60-minute scale, while the Arabic numerals and markers are printed in black. The hands are also coated in black for high contrast. The hour hand is fully luminescent, while the seconds hand, shaped like an arrow, features a luminous tip for enhanced underwater legibility.
The watch is powered by the automatic Longines caliber L888.6, a movement based on the ETA 2892. It offers a 72-hour power reserve, features a silicon balance spring that is resistant to magnetic fields, and beats at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz). It is also officially certified as a chronometer by COSC.
The new Longines Legend Diver 39mm comes with a stainless steel bracelet featuring seven-row “grains of rice” links that combine brushed outer links with polished center links.
It is fitted with a folding clasp equipped with a push-button release and includes a four-position fine adjustment system that requires no tools. This watch joins Longines’ permanent collection and is priced at 3,200 Swiss francs, or approximately 14,100 AED.
