Introducing Konstantin Chaykin Unveils the Joker Iron Mask and Golden Mask Editions

The independent Russian watchmaker elevates the Wristmons collection with a bold open-dial design

The Russian independent watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin adds two striking models to his iconic Wristmons collection: the Joker Iron Mask and Joker Golden Mask. These new creations further evolve the beloved Joker concept with a bold open-dial architecture.

Chaykin first envisioned an open-dial Joker in 2020, with the concept debuting in 2021 as a one-of-a-kind piece for the Only Watch charity auction. The idea took fuller shape in 2022 with the “Joker 5,” commemorating the fifth anniversary of the original Joker watch. Around that time, he began developing a new open-dial interpretation initially named the “Joker Skeleton.”

In 2023, Chaykin unveiled two distinct variations: a gold-toned design and a monochromatic rhodium-plated version. These would later be renamed Joker Golden Mask and Joker Iron Mask, respectively, with full production slated for 2025 following a delay due to Chaykin’s work on the complex Stargazer Wristmon.

Both models are housed in stainless steel cases measuring 40mm in diameter and 12.78mm in thickness, featuring a two-crown configuration, a domed sapphire crystal, and a flat sapphire display caseback. The bezel and caseback are secured with visible screws, adding a technical edge to the overall aesthetic. The case consists of 41 individual components, a testament to Chaykin’s detailed approach to watch construction.

True to the Joker’s expressive identity, the openworked dial incorporates the now-signature face motif: eyes indicating the hours and minutes, and a wide smiling mouth displaying the day of the week. The "eye" pupils are blued steel decorative rings for the hour and minute hands, while the day indicator is marked with a red rectangular-tipped pointer. Additional elements, like the eyebrow-shaped bridges and a ruby-set nose, further amplify the mask-like personality of the watch.

The expressive dial is backed by a mechanical substance. Both models are powered by the Caliber K.09-1, based on the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G200 automatic movement, previously used in last year’s Joker Classic. It beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and delivers an impressive 68-hour power reserve.

While the Joker module is developed entirely in-house by Konstantin Chaykin, the movement bridges reflect the distinct character of each watch. They are finished with a grain-textured surface, gold-plated for the Golden Mask and rhodium-plated for the Iron Mask. All steel components receive meticulous high-end finishing, in keeping with Chaykin’s commitment to detail and artistry.

Both watches come with a black alligator leather strap and a stainless steel buckle. They are available in a limited production of 100 pieces per year, with a price of CHF 40,800, equivalent to AED 184,600.
