Open-Worked Dial Showcasing the Reversed Movement Components
Kari Voutilainen began his career in the 1980s, working in the watchmaking industry in Switzerland before founding his own brand in 2002. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many prestigious companies to create remarkable editions, such as the “Schwarz Etienne Roma Synergy”, showcasing his exceptional expertise in craftsmanship and the design of complex dials. He has also released several iconic pieces under his own brand, including the “KV20i Reversed blue”, which we will be reviewing today in its new color as his latest release “KV20i Reversed Cherry” watch. This timepiece embodies the highest levels of precision and beauty in watchmaking.
The watch features a polished titanium case with tear-drop lugs, providing both durability and a sleek aesthetic. The 39mm diameter offers a balanced, versatile size, suitable for a variety of wrist sizes. The sapphire crystals on both the front and caseback are treated with an anti-reflective coating, enhancing legibility while reducing glare. With a water resistance of 50 meters, this timepiece is capable of withstanding light splashes or brief immersion. The caseback is securely fastened with six screws, ensuring added robustness and protection for the movement inside.
The openworked dial of this timepiece offers a view of the KV20i caliber, an entirely in house manufactured hand wound movement, showcasing the brand's craftsmanship and attention to detail. The dial is enhanced with a cherry colored minute ring, accented by gold dots, and features elegant blued tip hour and minute hands for a refined touch. At the top of the dial, the large balance wheel with rose gold weights at 12 o'clock creates a striking focal point, while the barrel, positioned between 5 and 6 o'clock, adds to the movement's visual complexity. These elements not only highlight the technical mastery of the timepiece but also provide a visually dynamic and refined presentation.
The reverse-caliber KV20i features a hand-wound movement that beats at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz), providing a robust 60-hour power reserve. Through the transparent caseback, the intricate cherry colored ring surrounding the movement is visible, adding a touch of elegance. Meanwhile, the small seconds dial, located just behind the 11 o’clock position, provides a unique, hand-decorated detail that highlights the craftsmanship of this timepiece. It comes with a hand-sewn cherry-colored fabric strap, and priced at CHF 124,800 equivalent to AED 550,000.
