Three new timepieces inspired by the vibrancy of Tropical Art Deco
When contemplating some of the most renowned timepieces available, it's undeniable that Jaeger-LeCoultre's Reverso stands out among the best. The Reverso boasts distinctive features such as its reversible case, which can be flipped to protect the watch face. Since its inception in 1931, this design has not only increased the watch's resilience but has also allowed wearers to customize the reverse side, often embellishing it with engravings or decorative motifs. With over 90 years of production, the Reverso has evolved from a sports watch to a beloved dress watch. Known for retaining value, the Reverso is one of Jaeger-LeCoultre's most iconic timepieces, thanks to its unique case design
In 2021, the Maison launched the Reverso One 'Precious Flowers' series, blending the essence of fine watchmaking, artistic craftsmanship, and High Jewelry. Today, the brand expands this collection with three new pink gold models, measuring 40 x 20mm in diameter, and 9.09 mm thickness. Limited to just 10 pieces each, these exceptional timepieces showcase the artistry of enameling, gold-leaf paillonnage, and gem-setting, adding further richness to the series.
In the language of flowers, the Birds of Paradise watch symbolizes freedom and joy, embodying the vibrant colors of the flower itself through a unique interpretation of traditional Grand Feu champlevé enameling. After the initial step of carving the outline of the design into the flat gold surface of the case-back, small sections of 24-carat gold leaf are meticulously cut to fit precisely within certain parts of the flower and carefully secured in place.
This underlying layer of gold leaf adds texture and remarkable luminosity to the rich orange and golden hues. Subsequently, the enamelist embarks on the intricate task of applying 19 different enamel pigments, skillfully painting them to achieve subtle variations in tone and a sense of depth. Adorned with approximately 331 diamonds totaling 1.64 carats, the Birds of Paradise timepiece is elegantly complemented by a shiny green alligator leather strap, completing its captivating allure.
The "Hibiscus Enamel" design celebrates the iconic tropical flower, symbolizing both beauty and wisdom, and presents it in hues evocative of a sun-drenched lagoon. Breaking new ground for Métiers Rares Reverso One, the entire backdrop is crafted from Grand Feu enamell.
Rendered in delicate detail, the flowers and foliage are executed in Grand Feu champlevé enamel, requiring a palette of 12 enamel colors meticulously applied in nine layers to achieve their nuanced appearance. Employing the intricate technique of paillonnage, the golden stamens are accentuated with minuscule pieces of 24-carat gold leaf placed beneath the enamel. The enchanting tones of blue and green enamel are further enhanced by the brilliance of diamond-set gadroons and lugs, totaling approximately 157 diamonds weighing 1.25 carats.
The final addition to this collection is the "Hibiscus Diamonds," which combines the artistry of enameling, paillonnage, and diamond-setting to present a dazzling interpretation of the exotic hibiscus flower. After undergoing 12 rounds of color experimentation to achieve the desired hues and subtle gradients, the blue blossoms were crafted using Grand Feu champlevé enamel.
The flower's stamens are accentuated with 24-carat gold leaf positioned beneath the enamel, while, similar to the Birds of Paradise timepiece, a backdrop of snow-set diamonds forms a radiant backdrop, contrasting beautifully with the vividly colored flowers and leaves. Complemented by grain-set diamonds adorning the gadroons and lugs, the watch features a total of approximately 523 diamonds weighing 2.02 carats. The trio shares a mother-of-pearl dial and all are powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 846, a Manually-wound movement that offers 38 hours of power reserve.
