Hublot celebrates the Chinese New Year in collaboration with artist Chen Fanwan
Founded in 1980, Hublot stands as a Swiss watch manufacturer that revolutionized the horological landscape by combining an 18K gold case with a rubber strap. Pioneering the concept of the "Art of Fusion," Hublot seamlessly melded gold with a rubber strap within a case intricately designed to mirror a ship's porthole, aptly named "hublot" in French. This groundbreaking fusion became the brand's defining aesthetic and technical signature, symbolizing the harmonious convergence of tradition, innovation, craftsmanship, and talent.
In the intricate tapestry of the Chinese calendar, the year 2024 heralds the return of the wood dragon aka Loong titled the "year of the dragon", a cyclical occurrence unfolding once every twelve years. This celestial creature, held in profound reverence within Chinese culture, embodies the very essence of prosperity. A symbol resonating with the potent energies of luck, strength, and wisdom, the dragon stands as an imperial icon, embodying the concepts of life and immortality.
With its first releases for this year, Hublot introduces the “Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon” in a collaboration with the Chinese artist Chen Fenwan, a limited edition timepiece of 88 pieces that's infused with the traditional Chinese paper cutting, with a beautiful 3D silhouette of a colorful dragon’s head on the dial.
Crafted with precision, the 42mm diameter and 13.8mm thickness of the brushed and polished grade 5 titanium case evoke a harmonious blend of strength and elegance. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, surrounded by a titanium bezel featuring 6 H-shaped Titanium Screws. The caseback is also made of titanium, ensuring a high level of durability.
The multi-level dial showcases a 3D colorful mix of purple, blue and white Loong Dragon head, based on the artistic work of Chen Fen Wan. Each glance at the dial reveals a fusion of artistic expression and technical prowess, creating a timekeeping canvas that transcends the ordinary. The dial is equipped with skeleton hands and does not feature any indices.
At the heart of the watch, the HUB1710 self-winding movement beats at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), providing a power reserve of 50 hours. This release is particularly special as Hublot introduces a rubber strap adorned with a marquetry design inspired by dragon scales with a titanium deployant clasp, a pioneering collaboration with the Chinese artist Chen Fen Wan that symbolizes the "Art of Fusion” philosophy. Additionally, an extra gray fabric strap with a Velcro fastening system is included, with a black ceramic buckle, ensuring both comfort and security on the wrist. The Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Dragon is priced at CHF 26,000 which is equivalent to AED 112,000.
