Hands on The Unique Piece by Biver Carillon Tourbillon The Desert Rose

Attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship creates an impressive expression of luxury

Few brands begin their journey in the world of watchmaking with a highly complicated timepiece. But when your very first creation is a masterpiece combining two of the most complex mechanisms in horology a tourbillon and a minute repeater, specifically a carillon minute repeater, you must be a name as significant as Jean-Claude Biver.

A visionary who has channeled decades of experience in haute horlogerie, Biver leveraged his pivotal roles at some of the most iconic watch maisons, from reviving Blancpain, reshaping Omega, and revolutionizing Hublot, to spearheading LVMH’s watch division and elevating the French group’s presence in fine watchmaking.

This extraordinary journey has made Biver one of the true pillars of the industry. It also led him to establish his eponymous brand alongside his son, Pierre. Since its inception in 2022, the Biver brand has introduced two remarkable collections: the Carillon Tourbillon and the Automatic that time only watches.

Today, we explore one of the maison’s most recent and extraordinary creations, the Biver Carillon Tourbillon "Desert Rose" Unique Piece. A stunning fusion of technical mastery and traditional craftsmanship, this luxurious timepiece marries rose gold, rubies, and mother-of-pearl, all wrapped in high-end hand finishing.

At its heart lies one of the most complex complications in haute horlogerie: the carillon minute repeater tourbillon, a mechanism that chimes time using not two, but three gongs and hammers for a richer, more refined acoustic experience.

The case is crafted from 18K rose gold with polished surfaces, and features a concave bezel, caseback, and case flanks, details that lend a refined smoothness to the watch. Angular, soldered lugs and a prominent crown (engraved with the JCB logo) evoke a vintage yet bold aesthetic. It measures 42mm in diameter and 13.7mm thick, with sapphire crystal on both front and back, and is water-resistant to 50 meters.

The dial is an artistic composition of mother-of-pearl, accented with twelve slim applied ruby indices. A pink ruby-set chemin de fer minute track encircles the guilloché center, producing a captivating play of texture and color.

At 6 o’clock, the flying tourbillon is visible beneath a sculpted golden bridge that echoes the form of the hands, themselves hand-beveled and satin-finished for maximum elegance.

At the heart of this masterpiece is the Biver Calibre JCB-001-B, the brand’s inaugural movement, developed in collaboration with the renowned movement atelier Le Cercle des Horlogers. This iconic caliber powers most Carillon editions and is a showcase of horological artistry and mechanical performance.

Measuring 34mm in diameter and 7.1mm in height, the movement beats at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and offers an impressive 72-hour power reserve. It features a platinum micro-rotor that ensures smooth and efficient winding, while preserving the aesthetic openness of the movement.

Comprising 374 meticulously hand-finished components and 44 jewels, the movement reflects the highest standards of Swiss watchmaking. The gongs are polished to perfection. The white gold bridges display a fine grained finish and hand-beveled edges. The chatons fashioned from yellow gold, contrasts beautifully with the platinum micro-rotor, which is adorned with a golden coating. The result is a harmonious interplay of textures, colors, and materials.

This exceptional timepiece is paired with an 18K rose gold five-link bracelet, secured by an 18K gold folding clasp. The outer surfaces are fluted and polished, while the inner faces of each link are brushed, a detail that enhances both comfort and visual depth.

This unique piece is priced at CHF 670,000 which is equivalent approximately to AED 2,793,000.
