A highly complicated watch that combines a tourbillon and a chiming mechanism inspired by the clock of the Westminster
Bulgari is probably best known, for its many record-setting forays into ultra-thin watchmaking which the company's broken so many world's records in the genre, as the thinnest watch ever, and we just talked about the ultra thin chiming watch too which its made of carbon.
However, the company has a number of other identities in watchmaking, including the high-jewelry pieces and also, highly complicated watches. These are usually in modified versions of the circle-on-octagon Roma case. Today, for Geneva Watch Days 2024, Bulgari's announced the latest complicated Octo Roma watch: the Octo Roma Grande Sonnerie Tourbillon, which combines a tourbillon with a minute repeater striking the Chimes Of Westminster in total of four gongs. which is a famous clock tower at the Palace of Westminster, the Church of St Mary the Great, Cambridge.
With a minute repeater on two tones, a carillon on three, and a grande sonnerie and petite sonnerie on four tones, the Bvlgari Manufacture in Le Sentier masters the gamut of chiming horological instruments. In grande sonnerie mode, the BVV 800 calibre of the Octo Roma Grande Sonnerie Tourbillon automatically chimes the hours and quarters as they pass and repeats the hour every hour. It can also repeat the hours, quarters, and minutes on demand. As a grande sonnerie, it chimes the quarters with its four gongs and hammers.
The watch boasts a striking satin-polished titanium case, accentuated by a satin-polished titanium crown set with a black ceramic insert. Its design is complemented by a satin-polished titanium pusher and a crystal sapphire case back. With a diameter of 45 mm and a height of 11.85 mm. Additionally, it features a water resistance of up to 30 meters.
The dial of this watch is a masterpiece, featuring a sandblasted openworked design in brass with a sleek grey DLC treatment. The satin-polished rhodium-finish brass hands and the applied indices add a touch of sophistication. At 10 o'clock, a mesmerizing tourbillon takes center stage, while the power reserve indicator at 2 o'clock and the power reserve of the chiming indicator at 4 o'clock, both highlighted in red, are subtly positioned under the openworked dial. Additionally, the gongs are showcased between 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock, adding to the intricate and captivating design.
Beneath the crystal sapphire lies the heart of the watch, the manually wound BVV800 manufacture caliber. This exceptional movement features a 4-hammer chime and offers a power reserve of 72 hours. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz).
The watch comes with a black alligator strap and a satin-polished titanium folding buckle. It is a limited edition of only 5 pieces.
