The Third Permanent Edition Joins the Lineup After Titanium and Red Gold Versions
Blancpain reintroduced the iconic Fifty Fathoms in 2003, marking a new chapter for this historic dive watch. The first release featured a 45 mm stainless steel case with an elegant black dial. In line with the contemporary trend toward more compact sizes, the brand unveiled smaller 42 mm editions last year, crafted in titanium and red gold, its first permanent additions in this size. Today, Blancpain returns to its roots with the latest 42 mm version in stainless steel, paired with a classic black dial that brings together all the signature elements that have cemented the legacy of this legendary dive watch.
While the editions launched last year came in brushed titanium or red gold, the new case is crafted in stainless steel, maintaining the same dimensions of 42.3 mm x 14.3 mm. The rest of the design remains unchanged, featuring a domed sapphire bezel with black ceramic inserts that boasts a 60-minute scale. A screw-down crown is positioned at 3 o’clock, providing water resistance up to 300 meters. The screw-down caseback is fitted with a sapphire crystal.
The dial comes in black, featuring a Sunray-brushed finish. The indices comprise a combination of Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, along with triangular markers for the remaining hours. The sword-shaped hands remain unchanged, and all elements have been coated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility. The date is positioned at 4:30, with the disc matching the color of the dial.
Powered by the same movement found in the previous 42 or 45 mm editions. the high-performance calibre 1315. This in-house movement features three series-coupled barrels, providing a robust 120-hour power reserve. Operating at 4Hz, it includes an antimagnetic silicon hairspring and a stop-seconds mechanism. The intricately decorated movement showcases snailed bridges, polished chamfers, and an 18k gold rotor coated with NAC, inspired by the rotor design of historical 1950s timepieces.
