Introducing Mido Unveils the Ocean Star Worldtimer
Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
An elegant release with black aesthetics
The independent brand Ming was founded by photographer and designer Ming Thein, and is based in the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur. Known for its minimalist design language and innovative use of materials, Ming combines Malaysian creativity with Swiss watchmaking. While the watches are assembled in Switzerland, the brand stays true to its roots, engineering, design, and even some materials are conceived and developed in-house. After launching the 37.02 Minimalist in 2024 as the first member of its permanent core collection, followed by the Titanium Ghost edition, Ming now returns to that design with a new interpretation, the 37.02 Monolith.
The watch retains the same core proportions as its predecessor, 38mm in diameter, 11mm thick, and 44.5mm lug-to-lug. However, it reimagines the look with an anthracite DLC-coated stainless steel case, alternating between matte and brushed finishes. The case also features a domed sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating, and a notched crown secured by a double-gasket system, contributing to its 100m water resistance. Like the front, the display caseback is also protected by a domed sapphire crystal, showcasing the movement within.

The dial, crafted from sapphire crystal, features laser-cut channels filled with the brand’s proprietary Ming Polar White luminous material. Unlike conventional lume, this compound, developed by Ming Thein himself, emits a true white glow across all wavelengths. The dial shifts in appearance depending on angle and lighting, transitioning from a mirror-like gloss to a pitch-black void. For legibility, the central hands are coated in Super-LumiNova X1 Blue, with only a subtle “Ming” logo at 6 o’clock.
Powering the watch is a customized Sellita SW300.M1, an automatic movement running at 28,800 vph (4Hz) and offering a 45-hour power reserve. Its finishing matches the watch’s dark profile, with skeletonized anthracite bridges, plates, and rotor.

The watch is paired with a 20mm Mango orange FKM rubber strap, secured with an anthracite DLC-coated tuck buckle featuring built-in micro-adjustment. Limited to just 100 pieces per year, and is priced at CHF 3,500, approximately AED 16,100.
